- LOCAL INITIATIVES
Maputo (Mozambique), 18 December 2024– Eni Rovuma Basin, on behalf of Area 4 Partners, handed over today 3 fully equipped ambulances to Maputo Provincial Health Services. These will be allocated to the health centres of Moamba, Magude and Xinavane in Maputo Province. This initiative is part of Area 4´s commitment to supporting communities’ well-being.
“This project marks an important step in our ongoing efforts to strengthening maternal and child health care in Maputo Province. Together with our local partners, we are committed to fostering a healthier future for thousands of women and children, in line with our vision to enhancing sustainable development in the countries that host us”, said Marica Calabrese, Managing Director of Eni Rovuma Basin.
The delivery of the ambulances is part of a broader initiative that also includes the rehabilitation of 3 maternity wards and 3 maternal waiting houses in the above-mentioned health centers. Additionally, the project foresees the distribution of agricultural inputs to produce vegetables, reinforcing the nutritional programs for pregnant women and children at these health facilities in line with the country’s priorities.
Furthermore, Eni Rovuma Basin, on behalf of Area 4 Partners and in partnership with Helpcode organization, is implementing community engagement programs to raise awareness among women about the importance of using health facilities to get appropriate medical care, and adopting proper nutrition practices. These initiatives aim to reduce neonatal mortality rate, and prevent acute malnutrition in children, benefitting 4,700 women annually in the districts of Moamba, Magude and Manhiça.
Eni has been present in Mozambique since 2006. Between 2011 and 2014, the company discovered vast natural gas resources in the Rovuma Basin, in the Coral, Mamba Complex and Agulha reservoirs, with around 2,400 billion cubic meters of gas in place. Eni is the delegated operator of Coral South project, the first to produce gas in the Rovuma Basin and which has so far exported more than 80 shipments of LNG, putting Mozambique in the global map of LNG exporting countries. The company is also promoting initiatives to boost the country’s energy transition; among these, the clean cooking program, which promotes the use of more energy efficient cooking solutions, and the agri-feedstock project that is integrating Mozambique into the biofuel value chain. Eni also contributes to improving the country’s economic diversification, access to education and health.
Area 4 is operated by Mozambique Rovuma Venture S.p.A. (MRV), a joint venture owned by Eni, ExxonMobil and China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), which holds 70% of participation interest in the Area 4 Concession and Production Contract. In addition to MRV, the other partners are Galp, KOGAS and ENH, each with a 10% participation.
