Karachaganak, the onshore field in Kazakhstan

technicians in the control room

Located in the western part of Kazakhstan, Karachaganak is a large field producing oil, condensates and natural gas. Since it opened, production capacity has been steadily increased by the installation of new gas reinjection facilities in addition to the existing ones. New injection lines and the installation of a compressor unit are planned to continue the production of liquids for sale on western markets.

Like our other activities in Kazakhstan, our commitment to supporting local communities continues with interventions in the areas of training, infrastructure and services.

Project development and operation

Support for the energy transition

Operations take place at Karachaganak in the deepest areas of the field. The expansion project to increase gas reinjection capacity is part of our journey to keep natural gas as an important support for the energy transition, due to its role in energy supply and in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Training also from an environmental perspective

Furthermore, together with the Karachaganak Petroleum Operating (KPO) consortium, we support the transition to the concept of a green office, which includes environmental performance monitoring and environmental training for company employees. Thanks to this project, KPO was announced among the winners of the third Republican Green Office Contest, which evaluated proposals for environmental protection from over 100 organisations.
