Mexico City (Mexico), January 08, 2024 – Eni Mexico delivered fishing nets and outboard motors to the Fishermen's Cooperative at the presence of the Secretariat of Energy Development (SEDENER) in Villahermosa, Tabasco.
17 fishermen, members of the Union of Millennium 2000, have received 12 outboard motors and 310 fishing nets, this was the last installment out of three. With this initiative, aimed at improving the sustainable livelihoods of the fishing communities, around 1,500 fishermen had the opportunity to upgrade their fishing equipment, improving their efficiency and reducing their impact on the environment through knowledge acquired in sustainable fishing workshops.
Fishing is one of the most important sectors in the communities surrounding Eni Mexico's operations, and this initiative is part of a wider Project, whose scope includes also various other initiatives to improve the sustainable livelihoods of local fishing communities.
All the initiatives are implemented through Eni Mexico cooperation model foreseeing continuous involvement and interaction with local institutions and stakeholders to identify the necessary interventions addressing local needs and contributing to a sustainable long-term development of the area.
Mexico is key for the organic growth strategy of Eni, which has been present in the country since 2006 through Eni Mexico.
