On the 11th of July, a roadmap for the decarbonization of the maritime sector was presented in our Congress Hall in Rome as part of the workshop "The Route to Net Zero. Together to Decarbonize the Maritime Sector". Besides Eni, the Shipowners' Associations (Confitarma and Assarmatori), three of the largest ship engine companies (Wärtsilä, WinGD and MAN Energy Solutions), as well as Unem, Federchimica/Assogasliquidi, Assocostieri and RINA participated. The first part of the program featured participation from the shipping industry and RINA, as well as the presence of Confindustria and the Authorities of the Sea. It followed an in-depth discussion aimed at illustrating the technical results that have emerged, through three representatives who spoke on behalf of the entire group of 40 experts, and finally, the third session pulled the strings of the roadmap embellished with testimony from the Public Administration.
We have planned a decarbonization process that aims to reduce the emissions generated throughout the entire life cycle of products. The approach of our company, which has set up a structure called Sustainable B2B, brings together research and development activities, technical and scientific skills and experience gained in the energy sector through a wide range of international collaborations and partnerships. We believe that a combined approach to sustainable mobility based on innovative solutions can contribute to achieving the goal of net zero emissions by 2050 also in the maritime sector.
We are evaluating a variety of solutions for transport on water, and this has already led to agreements with leading companies in the sector such as RINA and Azimut-Benetti. Products and innovations in this field are designed and developed with the goal of making marine transport more sustainable and meeting the needs of shipowners and logistics operators.
