The accident at Eni’s Calenzano depot

Eni expresses its deepest sympathy to the families of the deceased and to the people involved in the accident.

Eni statement March 19, 2025

Eni acknowledges receipt of the guarantee notices issued on 19 March 2025 by the Prosecutor’s Office of Prato in relation to the incident at the Calenzano depot. As reported, the notices concern heads and operators in the technical-operational areas of Eni’s Refining Revolution and Transformation Business Group related to the activities at the depot, representatives of the supplier company Sergen, and Eni SpA itself, under its liability pursuant to Law 231. These notices will allow the continuation of investigative activities, including the involvement of the parties concerned. Eni confirms, as it has done so far, its full and total cooperation with the judicial authorities, with the primary intention of contributing to identifying the causes and dynamics associated with the origin of the incident. Eni also reaffirms its commitment to compensating the families of the victims of the incident and, with the greatest speed possible, as permitted by the timing of the expert examinations, for the civil damages in the area, which are at an advanced stage of finalisation.

Eni confirms that a fire broke out this morning at its fuel depot in Calenzano (Florence), and that firefighters are working to extinguish the flames, which are confined to the loading shelter area and do not affect the tank farm in any way.
