Eni inaugurates a new building dedicated to maternity in Abidjan

San Donato Milanese (Milan), October 17, 2024 – Today, Eni inaugurates a new maternal unit at the hospital located in the village of Anonkoua Kouté, in the Abobo Municipality, one of the most densely populated areas of Abidjan. The project was implemented by Eni in collaboration with Doctors with Africa CUAMM, which carried out the operational activities. The new facility, equipped with modern rooms and a consultation room, will provide essential support to pregnant women and newborns, significantly improving prenatal and postnatal health care in the Abobo Municipality. The ceremony was attended by Hydrocarbons Managing Director Bienvenu Esse, and Eni Côte d'Ivoire Managing Director Luca Faccenda.

This intervention is part of a broader initiative carried out by Eni to strengthen basic health services in the most vulnerable areas of Côte d'Ivoire, in line with the priorities of the Ministry of Health, Public Hygiene, and Universal Medical Coverage. Eni’s project supported the construction of the building, as well as the supply of essential medical supplies. The construction of the building, in a maternity ward which handles about 3,700 births a year, represents an important milestone in the area, allowing to relieve the pressure on other hospitals and health centres in the municipality.

The three-year collaboration between Eni and CUAMM, which began in 2023, has enabled the launch of a series of interventions in different areas of the country that include the renovation of health centers, the provision of medical supplies, and the training of health personnel with the aim of improving access to health and response to health emergencies, reducing pregnancy-related complications and infant mortality.

Eni has been present in Côte d'Ivoire since 2015 with activities ranging from hydrocarbons production to the country's integration into the biofuels value chain. In addition to industrial activities, Eni continues to invest in projects to improve access to health, vocational training, and education, in line with its commitment to a just and inclusive energy transition.
