The San Gavino Monreale plant is founded in 1930 by the consortium between the Monteponi and Montevecchio companies (Montecatini group) to refine lead. At the beginning of the Seventies, the plant is transferred to the Ammi company and in 1978 it merges in Samim of the Eni group, as part of the handover of mining and metallurgical activities for the ex Egam (law 279/78) non-ferrous metals. Afterwards, the ownership passes to Sameton (Samim-Tonolli) and then to Enirisorse which manages the production of lead, silver, bismuth, and copper. In 1999 Enirisorse sells its production activities to the Portovesme company. Two contiguous areas are excluded from the sale, one of which has inactive plants and structures while the other is partly covered by a landfill and partly by a forest. The two areas are entrusted to Singea in 2002, then incorporated by merger into Syndial, now Eni Rewind. Today, Eni's environmental company is engaged in the environmental remediation of soil and groundwater on the site and is currently preparing an update of the Operative remediation project and Permanent safety measures.
