We are Eni's environmental company

We operate according to the principles of the circular economy, to enhance the value of industrial land and waste, through efficient and sustainable remediation and revaluation projects, in Italy and abroad. Our work is based on passion, expertise and technological research to regenerate soil, water and recoverable resources. We own about 3,700 hectares of land in Italy, the majority of which is located in Sites of National Priority. Since 2003, we have spent around 4 billion euros on environmental projects: over 80% has been employed on sites conferred by law or acquired through mergers, as part of the historic industrial rescue operations that Eni had to take over when it was a state-owned company in the 1980s and 1990s. Thanks to the know-how we have acquired over the years, we are now a global environmental contractor for all of Eni's business lines, including upstream, refining, chemicals and commercial activities.

Rewind: an acronym with a clear vision of the future

In 2019, we changed our company name from Syndial to Eni Rewind, an acronym for Remediation & Waste Into Development. This was to create a clearer link with Eni and uses an English word for a more international feel, as the company looks to expand abroad. Rewind means to turn back the clock, to recreate and use what we have learnt to build a new alternative future with a sustainable perspective. This renaming also makes it easier to communicate our challenge, to employees and stakeholders, towards achievinge lasting change: we are becoming a market player in the provision of environmental services to third parties, including development projects for organic municipal waste processing as well as water treatment and reuse.

Turn back the clock: let's use our expertise to build a new alternative

The name change refers to the future of the company, with an overall structure that is perfectly aligned with Eni's new mission of sustainability and a circular economy.

We are guided by the United Nations development goals

On 25 September 2015, the United Nations approved the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This programme of action for people, the planet and prosperity is divided into 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which in turn are divided into 169 targets. This is a historic agreement with which the more than 190 United Nations Organisation member countries expressed a "clear judgment on the unsustainability of the current development model", encouraging an integrated vision for the various aspects of development: economic, social and environmental. The member countries have committed to achieving the SDGs by 2030.

The implementation of the 2030 Agenda requires the involvement of all sectors of society: institutions, universities, research centres, media and businesses. In agreement with Eni, we favour an integrated and organic approach to all 17 objectives and incorporate the relevant targets into our operating model. Our activities contribute to Eni's long-term sustainable strategy of decarbonization, growth in renewables, environmental protection, technological innovation, research and development, digitalisation, support for human rights, setting and building alliances, sharing know-how and local development projects. The integration of Sustainability Objectives with operational and economic-financial objectives helps achieve shared and integrated success across Eni's various business areas.

Remediation

We remediate contaminated areas to give them new purpose for sustainable development.
  • Development and application of remediation technologies
  • Management of decommissioning activities, and soil and groundwater remediation:
        - on disused and operational industrial sites
        - points of sale (service stations)
        - of contaminated areas (for example, pipeline breaks)
  • Planning remediation measures with a view to development and the future reuse of the areas.

Water and Waste

We treat water and waste to maximise their recovery and reuse.
  • Chemical/physical/biological treatment of ground, surface and production water for reuse in industrial or irrigation purposes, contributing to the reduction of water withdrawals from nature
  • Management of the industrial and remediation waste cycle, from production to final disposal, maximising recovery and minimising waste
  • Development of technologies and know-how in partnerships with main players.

Development

We develop new businesses to support the energy transition.
  • Construction of new treatment and recovery plants in synergy with the industrial reconversion of Eni’s sites
  • Use of remediated areas for the development of renewable energy production plants by Eni New Energy
  • Development of activities for third parties (outside Eni), capitalising on expertise gained in the remediation and waste management sectors.
