All net zero scenarios and the main long-term strategies of the European member States agree on the need to leverage a plurality of technologies to achieve the target of limiting global warming to below 1,5°C compared to preindustrial levels.
The only way to efficiently achieve full decarbonization is to leverage all possible technological levers: progressive substitution of fossil fuels with renewables combined with electrification of end uses and energy efficiency will play a crucial role in the energy transition, coupled with other mitigation measures.
