In recent months the oil and gas issues have attracted everyone’s attention as never before, thus intensifying the request for simple, correct and up-to-date fundamental statistics regarding the international energy markets.
This is also the reason why the eighth issue of the World Oil and Gas Review has been completely renewed, with the twofold purpose of making the Review easier to consult and its documentation richer and more articulate.
The first innovation consists in dividing what was previously a single document into three parts.
The main statistics regarding the oil and natural gas markets have been summarized in a small volume, while two separated and specific annexes have been dedicated to the deepening of key subjects, which we have been dealing with for a long time: the quality of crude oil and the refining industry. Furthermore, tables and charts are now introduced by brief comments which outline the main characteristics of the different markets.
Our intention to outline the most significant changes in the energy scenario has made us introduce another important change: figures and charts regarding bio-fuels and natural gas flared at the well-head or reinjected in oil fields to extract more oil. A brief focus, which however allows to discuss issues which are often taken into little consideration or totally ignored, though being of great importance to our industry. It is our intention to continue in this direction, enriching this publication with information on subjects that will become more and more topical and are not thoroughly dealt with.
This year again the Review comes in a double version – electronic and printed – and the reader may consult the statistics included in the volume, as well as the economic and energy time series contained in the World Energy and Economic Atlas.
I trust you will enjoy reading this renewed issue of the Review, which I hope will meet your expectations, and continue to contribute to the success of a publication which has reached over 100,000 readers in 2007.

Mai come in questi ultimi mesi i temi del petrolio e del gas sono arrivati all’attenzione di tutti, moltiplicando le richieste di accesso a una rappresentazione semplice, corretta e aggiornata delle statistiche di base dei mercati internazionali dell’energia.
Anche per questo, l’ottava edizione della World Oil and Gas Review si presenta completamente rinnovata, con il doppio obiettivo di rendere l’uso della pubblicazione più agevole e la sua documentazione più ricca e articolata.
La prima novità consiste nella divisione in tre di quello che era un unico documento.
Le principali statistiche relative al mercato del petrolio e del gas naturale sono state sintetizzate e raccolte in un volume dalle dimensioni ridotte, mentre sono stati dedicati due singoli e specifici allegati all’approfondimento di temi di grande interesse, dei quali da tempo ci occupiamo: la qualità dei greggi e l’industria della raffinazione. Inoltre, tabelle e grafici sono ora introdotti da brevi commenti che delineano i tratti fondamentali dei diversi mercati e aiutano il lettore a comprendere meglio la situazione reale, guidandolo nel rapporto con l’informazione statistica di base.
La nostra intenzione di rappresentare i cambiamenti rilevanti del panorama energetico ci ha spinto a introdurre un’altra importante novità: l’inserimento di numeri e grafici dedicati ai bio-combustibili e al gas bruciato ai pozzi o reiniettato in giacimenti petroliferi per estrarre più greggio. Un focus succinto, che tuttavia apre un punto di osservazione su problemi spesso poco considerati o ignorati, sebbene di notevole rilevanza per la nostra industria. Vogliamo proseguire su questa strada, arricchendo la pubblicazione con informazioni su argomenti che diverranno di sempre maggior attualità o ai quali non è prestata la dovuta attenzione. Anche questo anno, la World Oil and Gas Review è proposta nel doppio formato elettronico e cartaceo, ed è fornita la possibilità di consultare non solo le statistiche contenute nel volume ma anche le serie storiche economiche ed energetiche del World Energy and Economic Atlas.
Vi affido il volume con l’augurio di buona consultazione e l’auspicio che questa edizione rinnovata possa incontrare il vostro gradimento, contribuendo così a aumentare la penetrazione e il successo di una pubblicazione che – nel 2007 – ha superato i 100.000 lettori.
