This year the XXXIII edition of the International Study Days organised by the Pio Manzù Research Centre, entitled “The flight of the humming bird. The future of children in the mind and society of the world”, brought together international experts and scientists, representing charity organisations, humanitarian agencies, governments and associations, at Rimini from 27 to 29 October to debate and discuss the most important problems facing children, such as the right to food, education, physical and mental health and security.
During the thematic workshops, the Eni Foundation presented the recently launched children’s health programme in the Republic of Congo, developed in cooperation with the local health ministry and the Fondation Congo Assistance.
In line with tradition, during the meeting awards were given by the Italian state and the Centro Pio Manzù to people who have distinguished themselves for their work in favour of progress and social solidarity. Recipients this year included: Evo Morales, the President of Bolivia, Maria Teresa Fernandez de la Vega, Deputy Prime Minister of Spain, Paulo Sérgio Pinheiro, Coordinator of the Secretary General of the UN’s study into violence against children, Mehr Khan Williams, expert in children’s rights, Antoinette Sassou Nguesso, wife of the President of the Republic of Congo and President of the Fondation Congo Assistance, which for many years has promoted activities in favour of children, women and the old in her country.
This year’s edition was organised and promoted in cooperation with Eni and Intesa Sanpaolo, thanks also to the contributions from, among others, the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Rimini.
