Salvatore Meli


Salvatore Meli is the Executive Vice President for Research & Technological Innovation in eni. He was appointed to the present position in August 2011, after a previous role as Head of Technology within the Strategy and Development Department (2008) and VP R&D in the eni E&P Division (2006).

He started his career in eni in 1980 as researcher in the area of new fuels development, with special focus on fluidynamics and rheological behaviour of solid/liquid mixtures and on process development for coal derived fuels.

As a research engineer he contributed to the development of new models for asphaltene stability and deposition, new processes using supercritical fluids, innovative fuel cell technologies, gas conversion to liquids, heavy oil upgrading.

In 1997 he was appointed as Head of the Engineering Department of the Corporate R&D Company, then in 2003 to the position of Technology Planning and Development of eni, leading major technology development projects of the company.

In the current position he is member of the eni Innovation Committee, the eni Award Scientific Committee, the eni/MIT Alliance Steering Committee and of technical and steering committees of industrial associations.

Salvatore has an university degree in Chemical Engineering and is the author of more than 30 publications and patents.
