The Welfare Project, started in 2007, allowed to carry out a number of initiatives to support our staff, on the basis of a study aimed at understanding Eni's people needs and expectations for what concerns work - life conciliation services.
Consequently a welfare plan has been put in place which includes services for "Family", "Health" and "Conventions", firstly at the larger centres and then also at medium and smaller units, with the idea or extending the system also to some of the foreign units.

Conventions2010 saw the opening of the Nido Scuola Eni, a teaching structure of excellence in San Donato Milanese. The building, constructed with close attention to energy saving and environmental sustainability, covers an area of around 200 square metres, plus an extensive green area, taking the total to almost 500 square metres. The service currently hosts 114 children, between the ages of 3 months and 6 years; a number that is expected to rise to around 470 from 2011.
The service was conceived as a way of making it easier for parents to conciliate their private and professional lives and to offer their children an excellent service in terms of the architectural environment and avant-garde in didactic terms. The space is characterised by visual transparency and continuity, both inside and out, in line with the desire to create a building and garden as a single organism. The main inspiration for the building comes from the centrality of the child and the valorisation of the child's subjectivity, with the aim of recognising and giving space to the potential of each child.
An education project is being created thanks to cooperation between the kindergarten and Enipower which aims to give children a culture of energy for infant school pupils. The Baby Bike is a special bicycle that allows children to turn on lights and overhead projectors and to measure on a special dashboard in real time the power generated by their pedalling. The initiative, which grew out of an idea of a work group at the kindergarten and a number of parents, has engaged the enthusiasm, creativity and skills of the technicians at the Bolgiano power plant who have, in their spare time, produced an authentic technological and educational toy.
Eni gives the children of employees the possibility to take part in summer day-camps during the summer holidays. This initiative, which was successfully tested in Rome, was extended to San Donato Milanese in 2010, and involved some 440 kids. The service offers children between the ages of la 4 and 16 the possibility of taking part in sports and games at favourable rates with the cost of the first week of camp being met by Eni.
In 2010 the Soggiorni Estivi Eni (Eni Summer Holidays) involved 2000 kids coming from Argentina, Kazakhstan and Siberia, and the proposal for a Soggiorno Tematico (Thematic Holidays) was implemented, increasing the places available to 200. These summer trips are based in seaside and mountain resorts and offer young children and kids the opportunity in sports and games, as well as training laboratories, supervised by qualified teachers. The thematic holidays are for kids of between 15 and 16, which extends the ages group covered by the summer holiday offer. This particular option enables kids to enjoy an educational experience focused on the study of English and an emphasis on sports adventure.
Every year Eni also organises the "Trofeo della Neve", an itinerant ski competition, but above all a fun opportunity that brings together thousands of people, and their families, from the various companies and units both in Italy and abroad. Also in 2010 the contribution of €6 by each participant was doubled by Eni and donated to a charity organisation. Thanks to almost 2000 enrolments it was possible to donate a total of around €23,000. The sum was given to the Smile Train Italia Association which helps children affected by serious facial malformations in disadvantaged countries, where there is a particularly high incidence of such pathologies.
In 2010 a wide range of activities were organised or renewed under the flag of "Conventions". Among the activities that were re-confirmed were, the convention with the tour operator Gruppo Alpitour, thanks to which Eni staff can benefit from discounts, enjoy special prices and book their holidays directly on a dedicated site and the project for the installation of machines for the distribution of high quality fresh milk, raising to 21 the number of machines installed across the different eni sites. One litre of milk sells for €1 and it has been estimated that the potential saving per person amounts to €200 per year (a figure calculated on the basis of the average household consumption of milk using Coldiretti data for 2009).
Among new initiatives was a convention for the sale of second-hand cars, coming from both the company fleets and the outside market and the opening of an outlet for branded products at heavily discounted prices. Finally, around 4000 free invitations were distributed for cultural and artistic events for which Eni is a partner (concert, exhibitions and shows).
