Eni participates in the 9th Meeting of the Global Compact Working Group on the 10th Principle Against Corruption

9th Meeting of the Global Compact Working Group on the 10th Principle Against CorruptionEni is participating in the 9th Meeting of the Global Compact Working Group on the 10th Principle Against Corruption (Anti-Corruption Working Group, ACWG), which is meeting at the Fourth Session of the Conference of the State Parties to the United Nation Convention Against Corruption currently taking place in Marrakech, Morocco, until the 28 October 2011.

The Anti-Corruption Working Group, composed of representatives from companies, associations, local networks, NGOs and international organizations, provides strategic guidance and advice on the 10th Principle of the Global Compact. The Anti-Corruption Working Group consolidates the efforts of the companies involved in the fight against corruption and in the development of compatible compliance program.

In this context, Eni has announced today to have signed, under the aegis of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), an agreement with the International Scientific and Professional Advisory Council of the United Nations Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Programme (ISPAC) to research anti-bribery programs.

On 24 and 25 October, the Anti-Corruption Working Group met for the ninth time in the presence of about 60-70 participants from around the world to engage in interactive discussions on the improvement of compliance programs on anti corruption. The purpose of the meetings is to share with participants the results of work carried out in recent months following the commitments made in Copenhagen, at which the various sub-committees – risk assessment, oil and gas and public-private dialogue – were established. The meeting in Marrakech will offer participants the opportunity to contribute to business proposals to be developed in view of Rio +20.

Eni has an active role in two sub-committees: the Risk Assessment committee, where Eni provides an update and discussion of the main problems linked to assessing risk and, in particular, the Oil and Gas Sub-Working Group.

As leader of the Oil and Gas sub-committee, Eni is engaged in the collation of best practices among participants for the development of an effective system to encourage uniform compliance across the oil and gas sector. At the event in Marrakech, Eni delivered some insights on the important activities of Due Diligence, drawing from its significant experience and acting as a reference company in the work-related study on anti-corruption. Eni's ongoing participation in these events is of great importance.
