In order to contextualise the relevant aspects for Eni's sustainability, the social, economic and environmental characteristics of the energy sector are defined. A second area of analysis uses as sources the main international standards, sector guidelines and sustainability indexes, such as GRI (Global Reporting Initiative), IPIECA (International Petroleum Industry Environmental Conservation Association), London Benchmarking Group (LBG), DJSI (Dow Jones Sustainability World Indexes), FTSE4good (published by the Financial Times and the London Stock Exchange).
A third area of analysis concerns the common practices and the best practices used by our main competitors in the area of the communication of sustainability. This process, which is cyclical, is repeated in order to re-examine the indicators to be measured every year.
The key concepts in the preparation of the Sustainability Report, which underpin the reporting system, are as follows: comparability over time, a timely and balanced view of Eni's sustainability performance, comprehensibility and reliability of the communication of all the issues that identify the context on Eni's sustainability efforts.
