Eni published its first Sustainability Report in 2007. The publications replaced the Health, Safety and Environment Report which had been published since 1996 including the other Sustainability issues.
The reliability of the information contained in Eni's reports and on Eni's website is guaranteed by a reporting system which brings together corporate and operational functions, an independent mechanism that verifies the processes used to gather the information worldwide and testimonials from our project partners.
The Sustainability Report, which is produced every year and provides information and data almost exclusively related to the area of consolidation, is based on a reporting process for sustainability.
Eni's sustainability reporting approach is the result of a reasoned analysis of issues pertinent to sustainability, sustained by a process of sharing and comparison that every year involves, across the board, all of Eni's structures.
For 2011 Eni launched a new way of communicating its commitment to sustainable development and integrated its financial reporting with that for sustainability. Eni's new reporting system consists of three communication tools which describe sustainability issue from three different perspectives, with the aim of meeting the needs of different stakeholders:
The area of consolidation is the same as that for financial reporting, with the exception of a number of figures that are clearly indicated in the document. The data has been collected with the aim of providing a clear and balanced picture of the action taken and characteristics of the company. The process of putting together the information and the quantitative data was structured in such a way as to ensure that figures can be compared with other years, to allow for an appropriate reading of the information and to offer an overall picture for all stakeholders interested in the evolution of Eni's performance
