The EST project at the Sannazzaro refinery
The first industrial application of the Eni Slurry Technology (EST) at its refining plant of Sannazzaro de' Burgondi, near Pavia. EST is Eni's proprietary technology for the conversion of heavy oil residues in fine products, gasoline and gasoil.
Eni chose to put technology innovation at the core of its sustainable growth strategies by implementing 7 action plans.
Eni has identified ten key technological platforms with high priority as far as investment for future business development is concerned. These platforms involve core sectors (oil and gas exploration, production, transportation, as well as production of high performing fuels with low environmental impact), renewable energies (solar energy and biomass) as well as the environment sustainability of operating activities.
Developing technologies aimed at reducing the polluting potentials of the hydrocarbon cycle is fundamental to Eni.
Intellectual resources, equipment and facilities at the forefront of innovation generate results through the exploitation of intellectual property.
To achieve true technological breakthroughs the main keys are the interaction between internal and external research and cross fertilization among different scientific disciplines.
