If a lubricant with a level of 15W-40 is requested, is it possible to use one of 10W-40 as an alternative?

Yes. As an alternative to the requested level it is possible to use an oil with an improved performance at cold temperatures (therefore, in place of 15W-40, the following 10W-40, 5W-40, 0W-40 may be used).
