Oil!

The play received its debut in Gela on 28 November. The described characters include Enrico Mattei, Domenico La Cavera and Adriano Olivetti.

The play, which was performed for the public and the press at Eni's Gela refinery, is based on imaginary dialogues from the end of the 50s to the beginning of the 60s. The director is Francesco Saponaro for the Naples-based Compagnia Nuovo Teatro and it was written by Marcello Colitti, Alfio Mastropaolo and Alberto Tulumello. The show is part of the 60th anniversary of the first meeting of the Sicilian Regional Council and aims to offer an opportunity to reflect of the past and reconsider strategic energy decisions. "Oil!" Underlined the President of the Region Regione Gianfranco Miccichè, "is the first of a series of opportunities to discuss the theme. For the first time in Italy, this performance, which is based on the people who in that period played a vital role in the history of energy in Sicily, and will receive its first performance at the Gela refinery." The show has been put together with the support of the Eni Histroical Archive for the reconstruction of the sets of the period and it the latest phase of the "Storie interrotte" (Interrupted Stories) project, created and developed by Fabrizio Barca, Leandra d'Antone and Renato Quaglia which aims to use imagined but possible dialogues, written by scholars and borrowed by the theatre, the radio and the internet, to build an greater awareness of a number of key figures from Italian history. Oil! Will also be performed in Palermo, from 30 November to 2 December, at the Albergo delle Povere.
