The Exploration & Production fond contains documents belonging to Agip and its subsidiary and associated companies. The 2,300 units of archive material covers a period from the beginning of the 20th century (with papers relating to Spi) up until the end of the 1990s. The bulk of the material relates to Agip and Agip Mineraria, but there are also other documents and the company’s books relating to subsidiary companies such as American International Fuel and Petroleum Corporation, Autobazar, Covengas, Idrobitume Zabban, Irom, Mineraria Somala, Miso, Petrolibia, Ravennate Metano, Romsa, Silvio Ballerini, Simpa, Sisi, Snom, Sois, Somis, Sot, Spi, Stoi and Vulcano.
The most historically and culturally interesting documents relate to Agip and Agip Mineraria and include not only the company’s books but also papers relating to exploration activities, the exploitation and production of hydrocarbon both in Italy and abroad, and the original oil exploration activities carried out on behalf of the State. The latter include agreements for the concession of exploration licences, details of the organisation of exploration missions, geological and geophysical studies, detailed plans and technical/administrative documents.
