The audiovisual archive contains all the cinema and video/audio material, stored on various types of systems, produced by Eni and group companies. The extremely varied material offers a complete view of the development of the company, including documentaries made since the beginning of the 1950s describing the decision to choose methane, the construction of the methane-pipeline network, the work of technicians and, shortly after, the company's presence abroad, the search for oil in geographically complex areas and the company's cohabitation and collaboration with ethnic groups.
The entire history of Eni is recounted in films made by famous and not so famous directors, all of which use original ways to tell the story of the world of energy. Apart from this material, which is the most important in terms of quantity, there are also many other audio-visual documentaries, advertising films produced to launch Supercortemaggiore petrol onto the market (such as "the six-legged dog, the faithful friend of four-wheeled men),
recordings of speeches by Enrico Mattei, newsreels from the 1950s and recordings of more recent Shareholders' Meetings.
The Cinema section also contains films that have obtained important recognition, including "Gli Uomini del Petrolio", which won first prize for the best documentary at the IV Rassegna Nazionale del Cinema Industriale in Genova in 1965, "Transmed: un Gasdotto in Mare Profondo", which won the silver medal in 1983 at the Rassegna Cinematografica Internazionale Mercurio Sansovino in Venice, and "Agip Dimensione Mare", which won the first prize in 1985 at the 25th Rassegna Internazionale dei Documentari Cine-Tv in Milan.
Set up in January 2007, the audiovisual archive is catalogued and stored on special shelving in a stabilised environment designed to guarantee the conservation of the films. Using sophisticated equipment, the existing film and audio documents, which at the moment can only be partly accessed, are being transferred onto DVD format in order to make them more accessible in the future.
