complete textThe English verb to care encapsulates two ideas: an interest and desire to protect African historical memory, as well as a concern for the enormous problems of the African continent, an area in which Eni has operated fro more than 70 years. A range of audiovisual sources, conserved in Italy's most important archives, provide the missing and necessary link in this history.
The first session, "Recording Africa, an archival contribution for an awareness of the continent" provides an important opportunity for reflection from among authoritative documentary experts engaged in a range of areas (business, institutions, foundations). In the afternoon, work began with the screening of the documentary film "Africa, the birth of a continent", made for Eni in 1968 per Eni by the French director Gilbert Bovay. Using the film as a starting point, the second session "Being in Africa: a sustainable presence" examined the history of sustainability in Africa, projects for social development – promoted in different ways by companies, non-profit organisations and the European Union – what has been done and what there is still to do. At the end of the meeting the photographic exhibition "An atlas of sustainable tourism in Africa" has been opened.
